'Pink Moon' To Bloom Over New Jersey Thursday Night

April’s famous Pink Moon is set to bloom over New Jersey skies this week, but will it really be pink?

Unfortunately no, it won’t, according to fullmoonphases.com, rather the name comes from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the first widespread flowers of the spring.

The full moon will be big and bright, though, and appear Thursday night into Friday morning, with a peak viewing time of 12:24 a.m. Friday.

In March, sky watchers from the Garden State were able to spot a very bright Jupiter near the month’s full moon, along with a penumberal lunar eclipse in the same week.

The weather forecast in northern New Jersey for Thursday night is a chance of showers after 9 p.m., mostly cloudy, with a temperature of 53 degrees.
